Chicken were domesticated to be grown in the backyard but due to demand it was industrialized during the 19th century. The trend of going back to organic farming makes a good healthy chicken with no antibiotics and added hormones.

Pastured Poultry is a sustainable agriculture technique that calls for the raising of chickens on pasture, as opposed to indoor confinement that grows in a temperature controlled environment. Pasture-raised chickens eat a diet made up of supplementary feed and foraged grubs and insects, which are the natural diet for healthy birds.
